1. Phone Consultation: The process begins with a phone consultation. During the call we will gather information from you about the nature of your recording. For example:
- What is the purpose of the recording?: University Audition, Fund Raiser, Artist Promotion CD, etc.
- How many performers, what instrument(s), will there be accompaniment?
- What is the location and what are the sound qualities of the room or hall? How much external noise will there be to contend with?
- How many songs will we be recording and the approximate length of each? How many takes are expected?
2. Forms: Based upon this information we will send you a Quote, a Recording Session Agreement Form and a CD Label Form. After reviewing, signing and returning the forms we will arrange a date and time for your recording session.
3. Equipment Setup & Performer warm-up: Your Audio Engineer will arrive at the agreed upon time on the day of your recording session. It takes about 15 minutes to unload our equipment from the vehicle and move it into the recording space. It then takes an additional 30-45 minutes to set up the equipment, assess the sound of the room and get optimal microphone placement. During this time it is important for the performers to be warming up and getting into a performance mindset. Your Audio Engineer will work with you during this time to check the sound and adjust the equipment settings. We will then take a few minutes to review the recording process itself and answer any questions you may have.
4. Recording: Then the recording process itself begins. It is very much like performing for a live audience, except that you have a few tries to get it right. Before the session begins your Audio Engineer will review with you the total recording time that is allotted according to your agreement and they will periodically remind you through the session of how much time remains. You can take breaks or play straight through. You can work on your performance in any order you prefer. And you can have as many takes as you like during this time. If you decide to extend your recording session and the Audio Engineer’s schedule permits, then you will be charged at the pre-agreed upon rate for the extra time.
5. Review & Payment: We reserve 15 minutes after the session to review the “takes” and determine which ones we will use for your CD. Now that the session is complete, we ask for full payment at this time. We accept cash and checks. Checks can be made out to MySound Studios. A receipt will be provided.
6. Equipment Pack-up: After the session has ended it takes us about 30 minutes to pack up and another 15 minutes to move the equipment to our vehicle.
7. CD Mastering: Your CDs will be edited and mastered in our studio. We offer optional labeling services to make your CD look as good as it sounds. Your CDs will be made for you and delivered to you according to your Recording Session Agreement.
